PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I hope that everyone had a very nice Christmas and an enjoyable and safe New Year's Celebration. I wish everyone the very best for 2014.

I would like to thank all of the volunteers that help to make our branch an enjoyable place to spend your free time in. Those who have given some of their personal time to serve on the executive or offer their time to assist the executive in the performance of their duties. The members who volunteer to sell tickets at the meat draws, sell raffle tickets, visit our sick or shut-in members, assist with the annual Poppy campaign, decorate the branch for special events or participate in any of the activities that continue to keep the branch operational. THANK YOU

There is always a need for the members to assist the executive committee to function. If you can afford to volunteer a few hours a week or a day or two a month your assistance would be very welcome. Without volunteers we may be forced to stop some of the fund raising activities that keep the doors open. Without the monies raised by these activities the branch would be unable to function. Many branches across Canada have been forced to close their doors and I don't want to see that happen to St. James Branch No. 4. If you would like to volunteer for any of the activities in your branch you may leave your name at the office or with the bar tender and a executive member will contact you.

I would like to welcome a new member of the executive, Comrade Blaine Ramsey, who will be looking after the sick visiting committee.

I would also like to give a thank you to Comrade Ken Morley who is leaving the executive. Ken was instrumental in raising much needed funds for the branch with his chairmanship of the Ways & Means committee.

I invite everyone to participate in a new branch fund raising activity. On Monday evening's beginning on the 6th of January we will having "Chase the Ace". Ticket sales will take place from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. with the draw to take place at 8:15 P.M.

Cde. Ronn Anderson, President

CHILDREN'S COMMITTEE

Branch # 4's First Annual Children's Halloween Party was held in the Branch on Sunday, October 27th. The Party was a great success with 27 children in a wonderful assortment of costumes along with assorted parents and grandparents in attendance, some also in costume.

Everyone in attendance participated in the Halloween coloring as well as the Jack-O-Lantern carving competition and, on leaving, each child took home their completed and, in some cases, not quite completed carved pumpkin.

Mago the Magician entertained and had several of the children assisting him in his feats of magic which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Our own Brenda Shaw-Nichols led the children in Halloween games and songs. Every child won a prize in the costume competition. Refreshments were served by Cdes. Betty Zarney and Al Coote. Our Good Witch, Cde Jane Deller assisted in the awarding and passing out of prizes to the winners.

I would like to thank those members of the Executive and regular members who attended and assisted, and I would especially like to thank Brenda Shaw-Nichols for her assistance in the organization and participation in making this "First Annual Event" a success.

This year's Annual Children's Christmas Party was held on Sunday, December 8th in the Branch Clubroom. Those in attendance were treated to hot dogs, drinks and potato chips. Entertainment was provided by Mago the Magician creating balloon animals for the children, Nathan Thiessen creating origami animals with several of the children. Christmas coloring was done at every table and Elf Brenda led the Children in Christmas Carols. Santa & Mrs. Claus were in attendance 56 children and Little Gordy Laing came forward to receive a gift and sit on Santa's knee with their requests for Christmas. There was a great turnout of members and hopefully future members at the event.

I would like to thank Mike, Al, Betty, and Joel, (the kitchen crew) Brenda and Mrs. Claus (Santa's Helpers) for their great assistance in making this party a great success

Cde. Chris Lundgren, Children's Committee Chair

WAY'S and MEANS

I would like to start off by saying it has been my pleasure as Chairman for Ways & Means these past few years. I will no longer be involved with the basket draws next year. Cde. Al Coote will be taking over the position. Please help him the way that you helped me. The greatest benefit for all the draws is the Branch. It helps fund various activities and help our veterans.

Our Christmas Basket Draw was held on December 21, 2013. The winner was Geri-Lynn Thompson. She was not there in person, but when I reached her on the phone she was thrilled at winning. It has been a pleasure in trying to get the baskets together so that the members would enjoy.

I would like to take this time to thank all of those who continue to donate to our basket draws: St. James Ladies Auxiliary, Chad Whitfield, Tom & Darlene Whitfield, John & Jane Rochon, Kendall Catering, Daurelle Wowchuk, Roxanne Mills, Linda Morley, Maria Sheard, Foodfare Grocers, Debi Pointkoski, Michelle Tourand, Jim & Joyce Ward. Without your help and the committee's help, it would be hard to continue to arranging the raffles. This year is new to us in the sense that we now have to be licensed. This includes guessing on how many tickets to have for sale. I am trying my best with this, so please be a little patient. If you have any ideas for fundraising for the branch please let the chairman of Ways & Means know, as they are always open to new ideas.

Special thanks go out to the following people who have helped throughout the year, Al Coote, Ron Filbey, Roxanne Mills, Debi Pointkoski, Shelley Smith, and Linda Morley. These people help out a great deal and make my job a little more bearable.

On behalf of myself and the committee we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours in Comradeship,
Cde. Ken Morley, Ways Means

We had the blue tickets and the winners were Ken Russell, Marj Lloyd, and Hugh Milne. Winner of the last draw was Marj Romanik. I hear Anne Kumka is in Deer Lodge.

A motion was made at our meeting that Derek Legge be asked to come and speak to us. He has been in a wheel chair for years, but he is very informative and could give us some very useful tips with us being seniors. He will be contacted in Feb. On Sunday Dec 17/13 we had our Christmas Turkey Dinner provided by Ken. There was 60 people in attendance. Marjorie Suddick did a great job arranging this evening. The music was very nice. Several of us gals got up to dance, but could not budge the men. We had a Bottle Draw, a bottle donated by Cammie Boyce and a 50/50 Draw. Once again a very nice evening. LAST POST

Heaven's gate swung gently open, the Master called softly "Come" and you Dear one took the Master's hand and your work on earth was done. We'll never cease to miss you and shed many silent tears because we cannot share with you Our hopes, Our joys, Our fears. But one day in God's garden when the master calls us to come, You'll be at the gates with open arms and say to us "Welcome home".

It is with deep sympathy the Branch records the passing of the following Comrades since our last review. The Officers, Executives and members extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
