PPCLI CADETS

The Branch is the official sponsor of 2701 Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Cadet Corps. This is just one of the ways in which your Branch supports youth development.

Training and Band Uniforms

Another successful cadet training year came to a close in mid-June 2014. It was quickly followed by summer camp training.

This year PPCLI cadets will attend a number of summer training courses. These include: basic parachutist; basic expedition, general training, marksmanship, military band, expedition instructor, (two cadets will take the training, one in Vernon, BC and the other in Whitehorse, NWT), leadership and challenge training and the Rocky Mountain National Army Cadet Training. One other cadet will be employed on the staff at Vernon Cadet Camp.

We have an ongoing program to replace the uniforms worn by the Drum Line. Two were replaced earlier this year. These uniforms are quite expensive, so the replacement programme will be phased-in over a period of several years.

Legion Medal of Excellence Winner

Cadet MWO Brittany Thompson was the 2014 winner of the Legion Medal of Excellence. She was the parade commander at the Annual Ceremonial Review and is currently attending the University of Winnipeg.

Frezenberg Commemoration

The Battle of Frezenberg without question is the most celebrated of all the battle honours borne on the Patricia's Regimental Colour.

Many serving and former Patricia's will travel to Europe in May 2015 to commemorate the centennial of the Battle. The plan is to have a number of Patricia cadets from across Canada join them in the commemoration of this important historical event.

We will continue to fundraise to sponsor a deserving cadet from 2701.

Change of Leadership

Commanding Officers of cadet units normally hold the appointment for two years. Captain Rick Sellwood completed his tour of duty in May 2014 and was replaced by Captain Anil Sukkan.

Rick will continue his association with the unit as the Band Officer.

Both Rick and Anil served as cadets with 2701 and continued their association with the unit by becoming cadet officers. They are among a growing number of former cadets who have chosen to remain active with the programme as adults.

Anil's normal full time employment is at 17 Wing Winnipeg where he is a physical education instructor.

Bravo Zulo

I want to thank Eric Murphy for filling in for me while I was away. As always, his support to the cadets has been exemplary.

Ivan Poitras Sponsor's Representative

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

In recent years we have lost many Comrades available for the important duty of Honorary Pallbearers who are needed to honor our fallen Veterans. I would like to request volunteers for this duty, if you can spare sometime in the AM or PM to attend various funerals and have a Legion uniform. I would appreciate you getting in touch with me at 889-8225 or leave your name and phone number at the Branch office. Thank you in advance for your co-operation

Cde. Eric Murphy, Service Officer & Pensions

LAST POST

Heaven's gate swung gently open, the Master called softly "Come" and you Dear one took the Master's hand and your work on earth was done. We'll never cease to miss you and shed many silent tears because we cannot share with you Our hopes, Our joys, Our fears. But one day in God's garden when the master calls us to come, You'll be at the gates with open arms and say to us "Welcome home".

It is with deep sympathy the Branch records the passing of the following Comrades since our last review. The Officers, Executives and members extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

As we are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,

We will remember them.
